Gorwelon in Aberaeron Reviews

Lovely property in a great location, with lovely views of fields, sheep and a glimpse of the sea in the distance. The sloping ceilings in the upstairs were quirky, but a challenge at times, especially for the six footers, even I had a couple of incidents and I’m only 5’ 5. Spacious and well equipped property. There were a few things which would have made the property even better for us (these are observations, not complaints) - larger fridge/freezer, we struggled for storage, a bread bin, a designated cupboard for food storage (all cupboards contained equipment), we ended up having to store on work surfaces, the wine cooler was great, but nowhere for red wine etc, a wine rack would have been useful. Large utility, but no sink or tumble dryer (thankfully it was good drying weather). I have to agree with previous comments on the towels, they were quite rough and could do with softening. A full length mirror would have been useful. We had to attend to the dishwasher and add salt/rinse aid - then the washing machine needed the drum cleaned - think these things should be checked and done on change over day by the cleaning staff. The info around the hot tub was a little confusing - re testing daily (which wasn’t a issue for me as a hot tub owner, although I only test 2/3 times a week), but then we could ask for someone to come and test if needed, but then it said someone would come every morning at 8am, but we didn’t see anyone - we did find a couple of what appeared to be used test strips in with the new testing strips - on reflection it would probably be better if this was done by owner to save any confusion. I have some mobility issues due to foot/knee problems and thought the ramp would be great, unfortunately it wasn’t great for me due to its layout and I needed assistance to negotiate it safely - my walking stick wouldn’t grip on the surface, plus the ‘drop’ from outside door to drive was a little unnerving (handrail would have been useful) - the same for the slope outside lounge area. I struggled getting out of the patio doors from kitchen area as the step wasn’t very wide, so having to keep hold of the door (especially if windy) and then negotiate closing the door, whilst using walking stick nearly ended badly for me - I had to be reliant on the family a lot more to ensure my safety. We were requested to remove the bedding on the morning of departure, which we did find strange - something we’ve not had to do in other cottages we’ve stayed in, except in 2021 after Covid. On saying all this it was a great place and we had a super holiday, the family really loved it, but not quite suitable for me.

We had a fantastic time at Gorwelon. The house is amazing and has 360 degrees of countryside views and sea views. The hot tub is an added bonus and we were lucky to enjoy a beautiful sunset every evening. Would definitely recommend and would love to return. The area is a good base to visit places in Wales.
